The electricity costs for an electric scooter per 100 km in Switzerland depend on several factors, such as the energy consumption of the scooter and the current electricity price. The average electricity price in Switzerland is currently around CHF 0.25 to 0.35 per kWh (electricity prices may vary depending on the provider and tariff model). For this calculation, we assume an average value of CHF 0.30 per kWh.

An electric scooter consumes an average of about 15 Wh (0.015 kWh) per kilometer. This means that the energy consumption for 100 km is 1.5 kWh (15 Wh/km × 100 km = 1,500 Wh or 1.5 kWh).

At an electricity price of CHF 0.30 per kWh, this results in electricity costs of CHF 0.45 for 100 km (1.5 kWh × 0.30 CHF = 0.45 CHF).

The actual electricity costs may vary depending on the model, driving style and specific conditions. However, this calculation serves as a helpful guide.

A major advantage of electric scooters is the significantly lower operating costs compared to gasoline scooters. While the electricity costs per kilometer are usually only a few Rappen, the fuel costs of a gasoline scooter can quickly add up.

The charging time for an electric scooter battery varies depending on the model, battery size and charger used. 

Normal charging (standard charger): The charging time for an electric scooter is usually between 4 and 8 hours when using a standard charger and the battery is almost empty. This applies to most models with batteries between 300 Wh and 600 Wh.

Quick charge: Some electric scooters offer the possibility to charge the battery faster by using a quick charger. In this case, the charging time can be reduced to about 1 to 3 hours, depending on the model and the charging infrastructure.

Charging status: If the battery is only partially discharged, charging will of course take less time. With a state of charge of 50%, it could only take 2 to 4 hours to fully charge the battery.

It is important to check the specifications of the respective electric scooter, as there are also differences in battery technology, e.g. lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries.

To extend the battery life, it is recommended that the battery is not completely discharged and not fully charged to 100 %, ideally only up to 80-90 %. 

Battery charging time for KUMPAN electric scooters

The charging time for the battery of a KUMPAN electric scooter is around 4 to 4.5 hours per battery with the standard charger. Thanks to the removable batteries with a capacity of around 1.5 kWh, you can charge flexibly.

Average lifespan:

Lithium-ion batteries (standard on electric scooters):

• Charging cycles: Between 500 and 1,500 charging cycles (depending on the battery technology).
• Mileage: This corresponds to 20,000 to 50,000 kilometers, depending on the consumption of the scooter and the capacity of the battery.
• Years: With normal use, the lifespan is about 4 to 8 years.

Lead-acid batteries (less commonly used):

• Charging cycles: About 300 to 500 charging cycles.
• Years: Lifespan is usually 2 to 4 years.
• Downside: These batteries are heavier and don't last as long as lithium-ion batteries.

Factors that affect lifespan:

• Regular top-ups instead of full discharges will make it last longer.
• Avoid overcharging or completely draining it.

Temperature:

• Best temperature to use it: 10–30 °C.
• Really hot or cold temperatures can permanently reduce how much it can hold.

When should you replace the battery?

Usually, you'll want to replace a battery when it holds less than 70–80% of what it used to. You'll notice this as a significantly shorter range.
